Schloss Schönbrunn was the former imperial summer residence of the emperors of Habsburg empire. The name Schönbrunn (meaning "beautiful spring"), has its roots in an artesian well from which water was consumed by the court. It was built to rival French Versailles in Baroque beauty and had been in the possession of the Habsburgs for centuries.

Construction of Schoenbrunn castle, a UNESCO world cultural heritage site, started in 1696 and continued until the 19th century, as each new emperor added or altered the inner or outer parts of the building.  Set in a beautiful location with huge gardens, the 1,441-room Rococo palace is one of the most important cultural monuments of Europe, reflecting the tastes, interests, and aspirations of successive Habsburg monarchs.

The interior is an exuberance of frescoed ceilings, crystal chandeliers, huge mirrors and gilded ornaments; the magnificent apartments of Maria Theresia, her sitting rooms, bedroom and the parlour in which 6 year old Mozart used to play for the Empress, as well as the parlours and apartments of Imperial couple Emperor Franz Joseph and Sisi.

Following the tour guests will enjoy lunch in the TBA to taste regional dishes.
